Q: What gives black goji berries their dark color?
A: Black goji berries are rich in plant nutrients and particularly abundant in anthocyanins, which give them their distinctive dark hue.
Q: Does GojiGarden change color in water?
A: GojiGarden changes color depending on the pH of the liquid it is steeped in! In neutral water, like distilled water, it produces a lovely purplish-pink hue. But in water with a higher pH, such as water with a high mineral content, it can take on a bluish-purple color. If you want to experiment with the color, try adding something acidic to lower the pH—a squeeze of lemon juice will do the trick and can even turn the liquid pink!
Q: What is the difference between black goji berries and butterfly pea flower?
A: While both black goji berries and butterfly peaflowers are known for their color-changing properties, there are clear differences between the two. For one, they come from entirely different plants and are used for different purposes. Butterfly pea flowers (Clitoria ternatea) are commonly used as natural food colorings. Black goji (Lycium ruthenicum) berries are primarily consumed for their nutritional content.
Q: Where are anthocyanins found?
A: Fruits and vegetables rich in anthocyanins include those that have strong red, purple, blue, or black color, such as blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, and black goji berries.
Q: Will GojiGarden clump?
A: GojiGarden may clump because there is no silicon dioxide to prevent clumping. But even if there are clumps, they do not affect the nutritional value of the product.
